Locating a Landman

I have the original leases (2) dating back several decades, pertaining to wells on which I have inherited gas royalties. There is one well though, on a nearby property, that I do not have the original lease on. I’m told a Landman can help find records. I had a title guy look for records and he said he couldn’t find anything nor could he find recording of the operator having transferred to a new operator, which occurred 4 years ago.

Welcome to the forum!

The first free place to start is at the operator for the other well. If you are getting paid royalties on it, then they should have the title info for it. Contact the Division Order department and give them the name of the well and ask for a copy of the lease and the paragraphs from the title opinion that pertain to you.

The next option is to go to the courthouse and ask the clerks to help you look it up using the abstract books. The title person may have already tried that.

If you give the location and the name of the well, we can look it up and see who the current operator is and what the production is to see if your search is worth it. Or you can look it up using the KY GIS map. Try this link: Permitted Oil and Gas Wells - Kentucky Geological Survey

If all else fails. You can find a landman through the AAPL.
