Gary, I saw on one of your replies to a post that some of your clients are LLCs. Do you know if it’s necessary to register an LLC as a foreign limited liability company in every state where we own royalties? We only have one employee and office, in Oklahoma, and simply draw royalties from leases in nine states (Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas).
Kershaw,
If, by “Gary” you mean Gary Hutchinson, send me a “friend” request and I’ll tell you what I know and what I have done concerning LLCs.
Kershaw,
Each state has a statute that defines when you have to register to do business in the state. There are exemptions in every state. Look at the Secretary of State websites for the states you are interested in, and they probably have the answer to your question.
