Brian, from looking for operators near you, it looks like Whiting is the only game in town, if they are even interested. The Nistler well within 5 miles of you shows no oil or gas production and has been converted to a salt water disposal well. You could try to contact independants like empire oil if you must lease but I would expect low offers, if any. Good luck.
Chesapeake was leasing in GV county a couple years ago but Whiting is consistently drilling up its current leases. Not sure on any new leasing activity.
Empire Oil Co. is currently leasing in Golden Valley Co, ND on behalf of Whiting Petroleum. Empire is out of Williston, their number is 701-774-2845. Give them a call. Whiting and Petro Hunt (operating further south) are the only two I know who are drilling in the county. However there are others (investors) who might be interested in leasing you too. I've provided some addresses below (no recommendations, just names).
Empire has taken a slew of leases and renewals in 141-104 and 141-105. So they may, or may not, still have 140-105 on their map. I don't know, nor do I have an idea what they might offer on bonus. Though ask for 3/16th royalty, and 3 year term. Mr. Kennedy is correct about some nearby dry holes, Kittleson in 141-105, Sec 27 (a Red River vertical well), and Nistler in 141-105, Sec 25 (a Three Forks horizontal well). Otherwise only one other Whiting vertical has been a dry hole (out of a dozen plus drilled). So Whiting is certainly interested in leasing some portions in the area. 5-17-2013, Cibolo Energy Mgt, or Tom Cook, 25326 Waterstone Estate Circle East, Tomball, TX.
They took a lease in Sec 33, for 5 years + 5 year extension, paid 1/8th royalty.
10-4-2012, Empire Oil Co, leased in Section 9, 4 years, 17% royalty.
9-27-2012, Empire Oil Co, leased in Section 13, 4 years, 16.66% royalty.
5-23-2012, Wasaabee Energy Inc., PO Box 21616, Billings, MT 59104
They took a lease in Section 7, for 5 years, 18% royalty.
Jan. 2012, Empire Oil Co, leased in Sections 5, 6, 7, 5 years, 15% royalty.
