Land ownership and mineral rights status

My wife and I are trying to figure out the current status of land/mineral rights owned by my wife’s grandfather and then subsequently by her father. The land is located in Bryan County, Oklahoma. It is 8S, 8E, Section 32, SW/4 SW/4. We have found two documents at the Bryan County clerk’s office. Book 923 pages 590-593. They are a proof of death and heirship form and an oil and gas lease entered into with G.H. Land Company LLC. Both dated December of 1998. Sadly both of my wife’s parents have passed away in the interim. We are trying to see what the current status of the land and lease is. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Paul -

I took a look at the area and there haven’t been any wells drilled within several miles of your lands in many years and none of them is currently producing.

The only recent leasing activity nearby was in 2007 & 2009, for the most part several miles away from your lands.

Sorry I don’t have any better news.

Do you own the surface? If so, I can send you some aerial photos of the area.

That’s one of the things we are trying to figure out. From what my father-in-law had said and the paperwork, it looked like he actually owned the land itself. If that’s the case, we need to get the paperwork current and in order. Unfortunately, these are the only documents we found so far.
