How do I find land owned that was left to me?
Read the legal description on whatever document you are relying upon that indicates that you own the land.
Do you have any documents? Know at least the County and State where it is located? How was it left to you?
I do know counties and state.
Okay. So you know the Counties and State; that’s a good start. You should have some form of legal documentation showing that it was left to you. In most states, if it is an Will that has not been probated, it will need to go through a court probate process. If it is on a Deed of some sort, the legal description should be fully included. If you’re lucky there will be some catch-all language.
If none of that really rings true, then you may want do research in the County starting with a Grantor/Grantee search entering the party that left it to you as the Grantee to find any deeds where they received it. The County Clerk/Recorder’s office should be able to help you.
You may also want to consider finding and joining a local mineral owners association or finding a Landman that can help with the research in those particular Counties.
