I’m the heir of oil mineral rights in Garfield and Teton County. My Dad Gordon Dale Garrett passed in March of 2013. This is how long it’s taking me to find any information. Where do I go now to find my royalties and any information about leasing or selling? I have oil and mineral rights.

Which state for Garfield County, Five states have county by that name.
Has the probate been finished and filed in the counties where the minerals are located? Do you have section, township and range locations?

I’m an heir. My Dad, Gordon Dale Garrett, passed in 2013. I found his forum conversations on here. He had chatted on here in 2011. At the time of my Dad’s passing, he told me he had a lawyer for this stuff but didn’t disclose a name for the lawyer. My Dad’s sister, my Auntie Mary (Garrett) Rowley, passed a few years ago as well. Supposedly she had the deed from my Grandmother Theoda Stark Ferris. Upon her passing, the deed was to be given to me. I’m the only Garrett female after my Aunt. My cousin has been going through all her boxes, but so far hasn’t found the deed. Our oil and mineral rights go way back. My Grandmother Theoda died in 1960. I’m not sure if my Grandad’s name is on the deed as well. Joseph Dale Garrett. He did come to my Dad in late 1970s wanting my Dad to sell. My Dad didn’t want to.

Township 16 North Range 40 East Garfield County, Montana, Section 12 and part of 14.
Township 25 North Range 3 West Section 14.

The deeds are filed in the county courthouses. Many of them are online these days, so you may be able to find it there, but depends upon how far back.
Garfield County 16N-40 E has one dry hole in section 15 back in 1964.
Teton County- 25N-3W-14. I see a Garrett 1 well from 1923! Now Plugged and Abandoned. It was a dry hole with not production.
Oh ok, thank you that helps. So I should focus on the Garfield County one. So what happens to abandoned dry wells?
The mineral owner still owns the rights until they sell or pass on in probate. The wells are supposed to be properly plugged and abandoned and the land restored to it former state.
Do people sell plugged old abandoned oil wells?
I doubt it. They have no value. The operator pulls the casing if they want it and plug it with cement.
