Inherited minerals - now what

I and my siblings have mineral rights in northern Utah area. This was something our father left for us. I knew we had this but, never knew what it was worth or, in the exact location it is in. I was contacted by a company to sell the rights but I declined. Now, I’m curious as to how much it is worth and the location. How do I find these things?

  1. Do you have a legal description? If yes, then you can go to a map with township and ranges and locate it. But, that is not particularly enlightening at this stage as to the value.
  2. If you don’t have a legal description, you might look in the unclaimed property list for Utah and the state where your father resided at the time of his death. It might give more information.
  3. Otherwise, I will leave further advice to someone who knows Utah land information.
