Inherited minerals in Union County

Hello,

I recently learned that I inherited producing mineral rights in Union County, Arkansas. My father died 17 years ago, but he was kind of weird with his land deals and did not tell me or my mom about any of his holdings. I am the sole heir and have started the process to claim the deeds and I paid the back taxes owed to Union County and changed the mailing address with the county. I’m having trouble figuring out exactly where and how much land I have. Right now all I have is a description from the tax records and it appears to only be minerals. I contacted an attorney in Arkansas to find out where to start. She said the money had been turned over to the state. I’m not even sure if it’s worth messing with. I have parcel numbers but they don’t show anything on the county website. I don’t know how to search with them on a map nor the other set of numbers like Lot 5 NW 5-16-15 and Sec 5-16-15 NWSW for one of the three. They all three are numbers like 5-16-15 but have different directions after. I assume the 5-16-15 is Section, Township, and Range? How do I find out who has the lease? I have never bought land other than where my home sits so I have no clue what I’m looking at.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You can look up the missing money that is turned over to the state. https://missingmoney.com/

Yes, those numbers are the section, township and range. They should have had 16S-15W. There are probably different tracts because a river goes through that township and it may have moved, so a bit confusing.

I tried to open the Arkansas GIS map, but something went wrong.

You can use the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission website Well Information. The website indicates there were wells at some time, but I find none through my commercial software service.

Thank you. So the directions are quarters of that quarter of that location. Like, NWNW is northwest quarter of the northwest quarter?

Thank you looking now.

Yes, NW4 of the NW4. Many descriptions leave out the 4,but that is okay.
