How do I find out if there are any companies leasing or drilling on ND mineral rights I have that are in my deceased parents' name?
Mary: If you will provide the legal description (Township, Range, Section), I will be glad to research whether your mineral area is currently permitted or if a well is being drilled. As for companies leasing, I will be able to provide the names of companies operating in your area.
Ms. Wiman, if you have the legal descriptions you could look at the GIS map server on the NDIC O&G Division website for permitted wells and completed wells.
Wells that are presently being drilled may require more effort to identify. To find wells currently drilled and awaiting completion that are still on the confidential list, you need to look for the date the well will leave confidential status or do a well search and look for spud date of the well to be certain that a well is actually being drilled, if it doesn't appear as a green rig symbol on the map, a black dot, a black dot with a wellbore line or a line with a green circle which means drilling but the rig is no longer there.
As Mr. Mallory has said, if you can supply the legal description for your mineral interests, we would be glad to help. If you want to keep your privacy, you can send me a friend request and I will look into it for you and keep it off the forum. I hope this helps.
Good Evening Mr s Mallory & Kennedy,
Thank You for providing the information and insight into learning how to determine the status of a well.
Currently, I have a well(s) in Section: 1; Township: 162; Range: 92 and it's active[pumping & paying].
What steps/selection options do I select within the NDIC O&G utility to locate this well???
How do I correlate the data I found in implementing the Well Search option against the GIS Map Server option within NDIC O&G??? There's a string of fields such as API No., File No, etc etc associated with a call to the option Well Search. Are any of these fields in anyway pertinent to locating a well???
Here's a question in regards to leasing companies; Are the leasing companies required to inform you when they
change hands??? If so where can I reference this data???
Thank You in advance for your assistance.
Respectfully
Pamela F Peterson
Ms. Peterson, there is no requirement that you be notified of your lease changing hands unless it is in your lease. Your lease could be divided 50 different ways.
Ms. Peterson, after inputting coordinates and executing a well search, there should be a map this section button/selection at the bottom of the page if you scroll down. I did this and your section looks very interesting with verticle wells and 2 short lateral wells in the Madison formation. I did this without logging in so I could see what you see. Then I logged in.
After logging in to my subscription and checking the production, the production appears low and probably not very satisfying. It looks like the closest Bakken long lateral [1 mile] well is about 4 miles from you and it's production I would class as only fair but it is still flowing, no pump yet after 2 years. I think a pump could make a dramatic difference but that well will never be a monster.
Ms. Peterson, the API and file numbers are going to be of limited utility if you don't have a subscription, the most notable use I can think of without the subscription would be checking the confidential well list and you do not presently have new wells.
I think Taqa North USA made a good effort to produce the Madison in your area. I think in the future they should attempt a Bakken well or partner/assign the deeper rights to someone who will. I have no estimate of when that may happen. It appears the area is held by production so it probably isn't a priority.
If you have specific questions about production from a certain well, just let me know and I would be happy to help. RWK
