inhereted Mineral Rights in Ok and Wy

Hello, my Mom Passed away 8 years ago and I registered with the Oklahoma Mineral Owners registry. How do I go about putting the Wyoming mineral rights into my brother and I name? I do not have a lot of money but would hate to lose the rights. Any advice would be great!

Thanks

  1. Enrolling in the Oklahoma Mineral Owners Registry will not pass title down from your mother to yourself. That can only happen with an Oklahoma probate, or under certain circumstances, an Affidavit of Heirship.
  2. Same applies to Wyoming. The small estate may be eligible for a Small Estate procedure or a determination of heirship.
  3. The owner(s) of the Oklahoma Mineral Owners Registry assert that their service is necessary to provide guidance to any landman needing to locate parties. However, this author does not know of any oil company/landman who has ever used the service. The are several other posts on this forum on this subject advising owners not to spend their $48.00.
  4. If the minerals are not producing, in the short term, you may want to record an affidavit of heirship so that a land professional can find you if necessary.
