Is there any law in place for companies to pay a certain amount or is this freely negotiated between oil companies and mineral rights owners?
CO has a minimum amount, but royalties and bonus are freely negotiated.
Do you happen to know what the minimum is?
It would be in the Colorado oil and gas statutes. Someone from CO may be able to comment. For example, OK as a minimum 1/8th royalty, but other states have other minimums.
