My husband inherited mineral rights in 1995. The executor of the estate is someone we are not totally sure we trust. There are approx. 22 wells. We have old paperwork saying in 1995 there was a lean on some of them. How do I go about getting information concerning wells? I would very much appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks.
Lorrie,
What state are the wells in?
Hasn't the probate of the Estate been closed?
Hi, Lorrie -
Rick has a good question: There are very few valid reasons for an Estate to still be open 18 years after someone's death.
Several of us on The Forum are in the oil and gas industry and are familiar with how to gather information about wells. If you can tell us a little more about them, where they are, what their names are and who is operating them, one of us should be able to look them up for you.
I would then suggest you look into consulting an experienced oil and gas attorney on your situation. Maybe he or she can convince the Executor to move things along a little more quickly.
Hope this helps -

The estate has been long closed. The wells are in Tennessee. My husband just does not have a cordial relationship with his uncle (executor) and I don't really have any dogs in this dogfight. We live in a very small town and when we see a lawyer that we know through the purchase of our house he will recommend my husband check out the wells. The lawyer has said this about three times and frankly, I'm curious. My husband is just 1 in about 6 to inherit the rights. He just doesn't think it's worth fooling with. I would just like to go to the courthouse and get information if that is possible and consult the attorney if I or anyone else in family deem it necessary. If the wells are in one county is it possible to get information from courthouse records? Hopefully I can get enough information as to where , names and who is operating.

Not sure what state you are in, but here is an article I wrote on Internet resources for research purposes.

Lorrie -
Sorry for the delay, I've been out of town.
I subscribe to an online website called DrillingInfo that covers 31 States, including Tennessee.
If you can get me the legal description of the lands involved, I will be happy to pull up what I can on your wells.
The name of the Operator and the name(s) of the Wells would help as well.

How do I find the legal description and so on?
It sounds as if your local lawyer there might know a little something, if he has already recommended 3 times that you check out the wells.
