How to locate my mineral rights

Hello,

Can someone advise how to locate information about the mineral rights my grandparents owned? I was contacted years ago by a mineral rights company, and crooked family members got involved, and I never got the truth.

The most exact way to do it is to look in the county records where your grandparents’ interests are located. I would look up their names in the grantee Index, then look up the grantors of those deeds in the grantee index, and keep following the chain up.

Depending upon the location of the minerals, the county records may be online.

If you know which operator is producing the minerals, you can contact them, but sometimes they are slow to respond or do not respond unless you have the right to the minerals.

You can also look at the mineral tax rolls to get a rough estimate, but this is nowhere near as exact as following the chain of title through the county records.

Depending on the value of the interest, it may be best to involve a land professional who is an AAPL member to help you navigate the process.

I can give you more exact information if you tell me what state the minerals are in.
