I may have as well. My Grandfather had them. May have passed to me when my father passed. Do you know where I would start to search. Courthouse?

The primary source of information on title is in the county courthouse where the minerals are located. Deeds, leases, etc. Probates and affidavits of heirship are also supposed to be located there. Occasionally, the ancestor may have died in another state or another county in the mineral state and the probate was filed in their county and not also filed in all of the counties where the minerals are located.
Call Richland County Clerk’s office @ (406) 433-1708. Enverus / Energy Link is a Website that allows you to look at active (and dead) wells, new permits and new rigs in your area of mineral rights.
Depending upon the information your looking for the Richland County Clerk and Recorders Office will look up documents if you have a Book and Page number and make copies but will not search for documents. So as I see it your options are to either hire someone to do a search for you or visit the Courthouse and do the search yourself. The Clerk and Recorders staff are very helpful so you don’t need a lot of experience to do a search.
Sorry to tell you but there are no active wells in sec 22….the closest well is a dry hole in sec 23 from 2006. No real activity in this part of Richland Co.
That is what I am hearing from my research. I have a company offering to buy. I just want to be sure I can sell. Company is Interwest Petro. Do they know something we don’t??
How do you find active wells?. I apparently have rights in sec 5 as well. All new to me.
Same story for now in the whole of 22N-53E, of course they know more than we do as they have petroleum engineers and other professionals who do nothing but research on the most likely productive areas.

zoom in and look in the SW corner of Richland Co, that’s where 22N-53E is…you can get a pretty good idea where the activity is. Your interests are probably going to be developed at some point, hence the interest in buying your rights… since there is currently no development going on, they can buy the mineral rights cheaply. But the closer new wells come into play, the more value the property gains. If I was younger than 65 or so, I’d wait a bit to see if the area is developed, then lease your minerals and get monthly royalty checks for 10 years or so. If you sell your minerals now, you’ll realize far less in the long run!
