How to find out what mineral property you have

Hi My mom has been getting some royalty checks from leases in Williams county in North Dakota. She recently moved in with me and does not have any paperwork at all. We only have the stubs to the royalty checks. I know she has other land but do not no how to locate her property. It was her fathers land so does anyone know where I should go to find out. An oil company called in December and wanted to buy some mineral rights, so there must be a record somewhere. Any suggestions would be helpful.

County recorders office, you should be able to find the lease there. If the lease was in the last 20 years, you could probably search it online with a NDRIN North Dakota Recorders Information Network subscription. $25 for a month, they take credit cards. Don't forget to cancel before the next month as it will become a recurring charge. I hope this helps.

You can also check with the tax office in counties you suspect she might own in. This will only work for properties that are producing and her interest is in suspense.
