How to find out if drilling has started

I am new to this mineral ownership. We are a land owner and was approached last year to lease out the property to drill for minerals. The other day we got a letter from a different company asking us to sell all or a portion of our mineral rights to them. Which we will not do. However, I have not heard anything from the oil and gas company. Any advice on how to find out if drilling has started. My self and my brother and sisters have owner ship. They each have gotten a similar letter but from different companies. There must be some kind of activity if other companies are willing to buy out our royalties right?

Nancy first of all welcome to the forum. If your mineral rights are located in Okla as your profile reads just give us the section, township and range and some one on the forum will check out the OCC website for activity on your land and the surrounding territory. There must be activity in the area to be receiving offers to buy your minerals.

Thank you for the welcome to the group. The OCC website do you have this website so I can give it to my husband? I dont have the information off hand to give at the moment.

Nancy according to the OCC website there are no applications on file to start drilling or drilling for the 3N-6W area but according to public records in Grady County Marathon Oil has been leasing in the area. It is a just wait and see what happens as thisactivity continues to expand in the area on a daily basis.

TY so much for the info. I guess its just a wait and see at this point if they drill or not or if anything really is on the property. But we will not be selling either way the mineral rights.

Call the leasing company's landman & ask. The company will not contact you about anything but leasing; but, they either have a land department or have a landman contracted out to do their leasing and he/she won't mind telling you the company's plan for your lease.

Hope that helps.

Some of the parcels I own have been leased for literally decades and never drilled at all. And that's fine with me. All that oil and gas is still sitting there and honestly, I probably make more money from the leases than I do on my producing parcels. I can lease over and over again but once you move into production, there are no more big pay days. The oil company can drill one piddly little well and tie up your whole parcel forever.

I love it when they lease and don't drill!!!! And all those offers you get the mail, 99.9% of them are lowballers looking for people desperate for cash. They want to take advantage of you. Beware!

One more thing... I think of all those 'offers' as mineral spam. You get on everyone's radar because you had a lease recorded at the courthouse.
