I am seeking comprehensive information regarding an oil and gas well located in Winkler County, Texas. I was recently contacted by Continental Resources requesting confirmation of my royalty interest, which suggests the well may now be officially completed.
While another forum member provided a surveyed well plat that allowed me to calculate my decimal royalty interest, I have been unable to locate the following information through the Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) website:
- Well completion report
- Production history (oil, gas, water)
- Official confirmation of well status (completed, producing, shut-in, etc.)
- Filing records associated with this well
I have attempted to navigate the Texas RRC Online Research Query system but have not been successful in locating a direct or reliable link to the necessary completion documentation.
Any guidance on how to navigate the RRC system or locate these records would be greatly appreciated.

Online Research Queries - select launch application under Permits. Various ways to search. If you have API number, enter last 8 digits with no dash (skip 42 as that is State of Texas). If not, enter well name or partial name and select county. There will be links to documents. Sometimes harder to open on a pad, easy on computer and then you can save. Permit, permit plat etc . Then launch application under Completion using API number or other data combinations. In data at top, you can see assigned oil or gas lease id#. Open link and then multiple documents are listed - including As-drilled plat, W-1 or G-1 completion report (depending on whether oil or gas well), etc. production reports are filed monthly and due within 60 days of month end. Use RRC district number and lease id # and specify date range. Wealth of information on RRC website and you will learn how to navigate. RRC has instruction link next to each category.
