How do we learn for ourselves

Good morning, our family was contacted back in 2020 by a rep from Callon Petroleum, about mineral rights owned my my husband and his brother that we are unaware of. They were working on figuring out any other heirs and a possible lease offer, however Biden was elected and everything stopped. Their family was big in Texas years ago. Wondering if anyone can suggest who we can contact to try to find this information out for ourselves? No really sure where to start.

Welcome to the forum.
You can start with the Mineral Help tab above that gives an overview of the business. Post a query in the county where your mineral rights are. Give your township, range and section (or Block, abstract and section in TX). I am assuming you are in Texas. You can do some searching on www.Texasfile.com for your family names. It is free to look and minimal to print.

Interest in leasing and subsequent drilling is dependent upon geology and market conditions, not necessarily who is in office. Interest in gas in Texas may be constrained by takeaway capacity.

How about starting the discussion at NARO about developing a YouTube series on the basics of mineral management and research? I would guess you could get TexasFile and OKCountyRecords to provide a user video for their systems also.

NARO (National Association of Royalty Owners) already has multiple webinars on the basics of mineral management on our YouTube private site. We had a special series last year by all of the state chapter presidents on their own webinars telling how to find data on their respective states. We have webinars on Division Orders, statement reviews, geology and more coming this year on more specialized topics. A list is available on the member resources pages on the NARO website. www.naro-us.org. We also have a new excellent minerals management handbook which we use in our Minerals Management classes. They are taught at the various state conventions.

Great information, thank you. I hope this can be helpful to many of the new or wondering members on this forum.

Biden being elected had nothing to do with your current problem What are you trying to learn? If you were contacted in 2020 and havent been contacted since, it just might be due to where your minerals are located, which mineral owners hate to hear and struggle with.
As far as “learning”. Pretty much all the counties that have oil and gas activity are now all online. You can search whatever counties you are interested in and search your husbands name, parents or his last name to see what he owns and then take the legal descriptions found, if any, and search recent leasing or drilling.

Callon was doing quite a bit during that time period. They had capital issues, completed acquisitions, and were eventually acquired by Apache in 2024. There are times when company focus changes and your area is archived for another time. This is not a political statement, US oil production went to its highest point during Biden. His admin had very little to do with that accomplishment. Tangential issues can lead to poor associations.
