How do I find the right map?

I'm like ya'll, mostly interested in oil and gas in being here. But I've recently became interested in a water well and have been looking into do-it-yourself stuff on it. Before I go much further into it I'm hoping to find a map indicating how deep our 1st rock layer is and whether the water table is above or below it. This site seems like a likely place to get some good guidance. If it's important - we're east of San Antonio Texas in Guadalupe county.

I'm not even sure what the right map for that would be called, let alone where to find it. I've spent the past hour guessing while searching the internet without much progress. Anybody got any advise or key words to help me in my search?

Thanx

Larry

Larry:

There are maps on file at the Railroad Commission of Texas (San Antonio field office) which should provide this information. I would contact that office and inquire what information they have for this area. This would be a good starting point.

The TCEQ will probably have what you need.

Larry -

You might want to talk to some of your neighbors that have wells of their own. They've had to go through the process before.

And somebody with the County, like the Agricultural Agent or the Count Engineer might be able to provide you with information.

On the state level, you could check with the Texas Water Development Board in Austin.

Hope this helps -

Charles

Here are the TCEQ maps.

Larry,

I'm south of Lubbock in the High Plains Water Conservation District over the Ogallala Aquifer. This district has maps of aquifer depth and thickness online.

Looking at the map at this link ( http://www.hpwd.com/public/pdfs/gcd_only_8x11.pdf) shows Guadalupe County covered partly by Edwards Aquifer Authority and partly by the county GCD. Don't know what info they have but maybe you could start there.

Good Luck
