My dad passed whom owned property / mineral rights in Logan County. Last conversation 1980's regarding this was: Leasing / Selling property, but keeping the mineral rights. How/Where can we find the status of this property and mineral rights? My sibling and I are out of state. Property is located in Logan County. Thank you
Patricia, which state is this? Colorado or Oklahoma? Sorry if you mentioned this before.
Logan County, OK
different answers depending on what you know. If you have a clue as to section, township and range, I would call the Logan county clerk and buy a copy of the index of the section. Once you get the index, then you can track down the book and pages of the documents involved and then order them from the Logan county clerk, or purchase them off okcountyrecords.com depending on how far back they are.
If you don't have any clue as to section, township and range, you should check the Oklahoma unclaimed property fund to see if it holding any money in your father's name. That would give you some indication that the property is producing. When you make a claim for the property, then it should also give you an indication of who is producing on the property and the legal description. You also need to check the unclaimed property fund in the state where your father lived.
If there are no funds in unclaimed property fund, then I suggest hiring a landman to check the grantor/grantee indexes of Logan county to try to track down the information.
