Help! Found old Deed that was not transfered

While digitizing old paper records, I stumbled upon a Deed from 1977 in Claiborne, MS. This belonged to my great aunt. For some reason this deed was never transferred to our family partnership along with everything else. How can I find out whether or not we are still entitled to this mineral right? I tried searching for deed records online, but so far have come up empty handed. Does Mississippi have anything similar to TexasFile or OKcountyrecords? Do we need to hire a landman to investigate this for us? How much would that cost? Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the form ! Have you been to the court house ? I try there and look up the deed ! Good luck and I sure others will weigh in! Good luck

| You may be able to find a landman to help you and then get a deed to transfer it into the partnership. Here is a link to the AAPL directory. Hunt for a Miss landman. | | | | |----|----|----|----|

No, I have not been to the court house. Currently living in Texas. Have you done that before though? I’ve always been curious If you can just walk into the clerks office and ask to look through records. Not sure how that works.

Thank you Martha, I will give that a try.

It is possible that it was recorded and you just found an unrecorded copy.

My family owns inherited mineral rights in two counties in Mississippi. Years ago, I walked into the Chancery Clerks’ offices in both counties and was able to research the land records. More recently, I have found that land records are now online in one of the counties but not the other. You can contact the Chancery Clerk in Claiborne County. I just checked the website, https://www.ccmsgov.us/chancery-clerk/, and it doesn’t mention online availability, so that appears unlikely. I’ve not needed to use a landsman and don’t have any information about them. Good luck!
