Researching to find out if I should purchase my parents mineral rights in Stevens county, Kansas. Found a permit filed on December 28, 2023 to drill a cathodic protection borehole by the company WTG Hugoton LP from Texas. Looks like this will be drilled in or near the area they have mineral rights to. I’m not very good at understanding how to navigate these maps. If I understand correctly this is what is put in the ground before a gas well? To protect the gas well pipeline. I’m learning but unsure if this means a definite positive for us, a maybe good news or a big nothing burger? Says pit capacity 96. Said they notified the surface owner but didn’t mention the mineral rights owner. (He sold the farmland but kept the MR) any help much appreciated. Thanks!
