I have inherited minerals rights from my mother and have no idea where to start, 8 sections in grady county and 2 sections in kiowa county both in Oklahoma. Just finished probate and they are in my name now
Condolences on the passing of your mom.
Start by putting the tracts in order and make a digital and/or paper file folder. Label by State, County, Township, Range, Section.
Were the probate documents filed in both Grady County Courthouse and the Kiowa County Courthouse?
Check unclaimed funds in the state treasurer’s office in the states where your mom lived. Also check Delaware just in case.
Do you have any files from your Mom? Was she getting any checks? If she was getting checks, then you need to contact each operator’s Division Order Analyst and ask what you need to do to get into pay. They will likely need your driver’s license and copies of the probate docs.
Get familiar with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission website. You need to look up each of the sections to see if there are active wells in the section. (Hit the Error word) Error
Get familiar with the OK tax site to look up which wells are producing. https://oktap.tax.ok.gov/oktap/web/_/
Go down to the HELP box (skip the user name & password) Go to the Public PUN search.
Now that these are in your name, you should incorporate them into your estate plan. Deeding them to your trust if you have one. Otherwise, consider a transfer on death deed.
