Hello Forum. Hope you can help us figure out what is going on. My siblings and I received certified letters in November 2020 about pooling proceedings for mineral interests in Lea County Section 4, Township 25 South, Range 35 East. There was more detail in the description but we have inherited partial interests in this area from a grandmother who was willed her interest a long time ago. Apparently she received some lease payments. She is now passed. A senior Landman representing COG wrote us an email saying the” NMOCD assigns a royalty interest to all uncommitted owners”. We are working with an attorney to get title in our names in Lea County which seems to be a VERY slow and involved process. We are wondering If there are active wells in this location now or were there old wells that should have paid royalties any time after 1980? If so, how do we receive payment? What is a royalty interest? How does that translate to dollars? Thank you for anything to help us understand this.
