A great time to be a member of NARO-TX
July is the month that we celebrate all things NARO-TX by inviting you to our state convention. This year we have an action-packed event that returns you to the beautiful Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin, Texas. We start off the festivities with a few preconference events to get you excited about being a part of NARO-TX. On July 22nd, we will have tour of the Texas State Capitol, led by the Legislative Committee and sponsored by PlainsCapital Bank. On the tour, you will gain first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of the Texas Legislative system, meet board members from the legislative committee, meet legislative staff, and learn how you can become more active in the legislative efforts of NARO-TX in the coming session. We are also going to discuss NARO-TX plans for the upcoming election year as all seats for the Texas House of Representatives are up for reelection. Tour materials will include information about legislation that NARO-TX worked on as well as information about other laws that were passed and could affect your mineral interests in the future. I encourage anyone who is interested in our advocacy efforts to attend. Registration is required and lunch and transportation are provided. Click here for more information.
It’s a great time to be a member of NARO-TX – it’s an even better time to come to the convention.
On Wednesday, we have several preconvention events planned. In the morning, the NARO Foundation will offer the Introduction to Mineral Ownership. This course is designed for new mineral owners and those who like a refresher and put on by the educational arm of NARO – the NARO Foundation. Taught by the Foundation’s President, Jimmy Wright, the course will cover the basics of property law, the timeline of mineral ownership, an introduction to calculations, and much more. Click here to register.
On Wednesday afternoon at 1pm, you can choose between two great courses, one geared toward expanding your personal management of minerals and the other geared those advancing their career and seeking their certificate in mineral management. Glen Webb will offer Mineral Management 101 – a class that is usually offered the same day as the convention - to give attendees advice to boost their confidence and help them become better at managing their own minerals. Click here for more information and to register.
If you are working toward your mineral management certification and your CMM credential, you will want to attend the NARO Foundation Mineral Management Review Course, a course designed to help you deep dive into the essentials of managing minerals for others. This course is newly designed with a brand-new textbook that has been modernized for understanding the nuances of mineral management in 2025, where wind, solar, carbon and minerals merge on the landscape. This program is a must for those sitting for the mineral management exam series – also offered during the convention. The review course manual is sold separately. After a full day of preconvention education, grab your swimsuit and enjoy the sunshine as you join us for our Welcome Back Pool Party that will be held at the swimming pool from 6pm to 10pm on Wednesday evening. Snacks will be provided to all NARO-TX attendees, and a cash bar will be available. Relax after your day of study and meet new friends.
On Thursday morning before the convention starts, be sure to check out the new class being offered by Glen Webb – Introduction to Estate Planning for Mineral Owners. This brand-new preconvention class offering will teach you expert insights into ways to plan your estate to protect your mineral and royalty legacy for generations to come. If you’ve attended Glen’s classes in the past and have been wanting more information, here’s your chance to dive deeper into his expertise of mineral and royalty ownership. Space is still available. Click here to register.
At 1pm on Thursday we will kick of the convention with updates on all the wonderful activities we’ve been having at NARO-TX the past year or so. I’ll start off the conversation by welcoming you to the convention and outline where the board and I want to take the organization in 2026. We’ll also hear from Jon Corkern our National Director, from Ben Sebree about his efforts in the legislature this year, David Wallace will talk about ways you can get extra royalties, and Phillip Dunning will discuss the activity across the state and what is expected next year.
After the convention dismisses for the evening on Thursday at 5pm, we will head into our evening reception, where we will meet the 28 exhibitors signed up this year. As an added bonus, directors will be located in several parts of the reception with district numbers. You are invited to meet your representative and others from your district. We are hopeful that this will be the beginning of new friendships and connections for the coming year – where you can share issues and information.
Thursday evening, we will have glow golf on the lawn for everyone as another opportunity to make new friends and see old ones. Snacks will be provided and there will be a cash bar. Come and go as you like from 8pm to 10pm.
Friday morning, we kick off the day’s activities with breakfast at 7:30 am upstairs outside the ballroom. Everything will run on two tracks all day. Please see the schedule and pick out what interests you. At noon we will gather for a buffet lunch and hear from Representative Brooks Landgraf as our keynote speaker. At 3:30pm we’ll come back together to talk about produced water ownership in Texas. At 4:30pm I’ll introduce you to all the public officials and special guests that we’ve invited to the event, including Comptroller candidates Don Huffines and Christie Craddick, members of the House Energy Committee including Chairman Darby and Vice Chairman Morales as well as Representative Rosenthal – who graciously sponsored the NARO-TX bills. We’ve also invited members of the Senate Natural Resources Committee including Chairman Birdwell and Vice Chair Dean Zaffirini. Railroad Commission Chair Wright has also been invited to attend. We are hopeful that all of our special guests will be in attendance so that you can met them during the reception on Friday evening. After the reception we will have lawn games and smores as well as snacks and a cash bar from 8pm to 10pm. Come and brainstorm about how you want to help NARO this year.
Be sure to stick around on Saturday, where we will have our chapter meeting and go more in depth on our plans for the coming year. We will also hear from the railroad commission on how to navigate the RRC to help get information to help get paid.
We will have some fantastic prizes given away at the end – but you must be present to win. I hope you will join us for what I hope will be a memorable conference experience.
Thank you all for your involvement in the organization over this past year. Thank you to new members who have joined us recently – I am hopeful that the convention will fuel your fire and that you will want to become more involved in NARO in the future. We are your organization – formed 40 years ago by mineral and royalty owners just like you – people who saw a need for education and advocacy for the property owners of the mineral estate. People who wanted to help each other and future generations. That’s what we are here for – to help each other deal with the problems of today and to plan for the future of mineral and royalty ownership. We are here to continue the legacy of our ancestors. Thank you for being part of that legacy and part of NARO-TX. It’s a great time to be a member of NARO-TX.
