Does anyone have experience with Form 50-171, the request for separate taxation of an undivided interest here in Texas? I’m wondering if this is the way to go to get separate tax bills (on the land) instead of one person collecting for all the family when you have a number of heirs on one plot of land here in Texas. When it comes to the minerals (which are producing) all individual family members receive separate tax bills.
I have never had to use a form. In the past, I sent the appraisal district and tax assessor a letter that provides the list of owners, their address and each person’s percentage interest, along with a copy of the vesting document (deed, order determining heirship, partition deed, etc) and they send out separate invoices.
