Expiration of Leases

I have a lease with Chesapeake that expired or should have expired in October 2014. When leases expire, does anyone notify the lessor (like me)? I notice that Chesapeake is drilling and has wells very close to my minerals. Thanks for any information anyone can give this novice.

Notification of lease expiration is not something that will happen unless they are still wanting to drill a well on your lease. In most cases, if nothing has been drilled during the term of the lease or any extensions, they will need to obtain a new lease before they have the right to drill.

That's what I thought, too. My minerals are in Sec 17 28N 19W and Sec 20 28N 19W.
