Expiration of Lease

My sister and I own the mineral rights on 160 acres in Grant County Oklahoma. We leased them 3 years ago and now the lease has expired. We contacted the landman that orginally made contact with us and negotiated the lease and he is no longer in the business. No drilling took place on the land. What now?

Brian: If the mineral lease has expired with no drilling activity, then you are no longer leased and free to lease to another Operator. I would also request from the Lessee a “Release of Lease” and have it filed.

What Mike Igau says is true unless your acreage has been pooled with other acreage and the pooled acreage has a producing well.
