Establishing value of minerals

I need to establish a value on my deceased aunt’s 7 mineral holdings in Lea County, New Mexico. Only 1 is under lease. Two are in Range 38 East, Township 20 South. The other 4 are in Range 35 East, Township 18 South. This is needed to determine if my aunt’s estate exceeds the new death tax ceiling. Can a landman do this? Do I need a certified engineer?

With non-producing, unleased minerals you could probably get by with a landman’s appraisal, since the value will likely be minimal. The leased minerals could have more value, depending on how close they are to existing activity. In that case, you might need an engineer’s report.
