Ellis County, OK - Oil & Gas Discussion archives

Tom here is the link. I already set your land location in it.

Looks like my lease info was not up to date County Records has leases in 2013 .

My family owns 40 acres in section 9, township 20 north, range 24 west in Ellis County, Oklahoma. It currently contains 4 producing wells, drilled by Noble, now owned by Unit Petroleum. I also own 80 acres in section 10 of 20N,24W. This land is under lease to Chesapeake, but not drilled at this time and due to expire next April. I am looking for any information on current activity or interest in these areas. Thank you so much.

In Louisiana we have the sonrislite page which allows anyone to see the information for any well, section, etc. I have use the ocat page in the past, but have found the data to be almost a year behind. Is there a reliable up to date electronic data management system for well information? As an example, here is the well in our section in LA.

Hi all am hoping someone can point me in the write direction. We receive royalties from several wells in Ellis Co. From Chesapeake, EOG & Primary Resources. We participate in 7 wells with Chesapeake. In this months check which was for 8/2013 production on one well we were paid $3.48/MCF for natural gas on the other 6 wells we were paid between $1.40 & $1.57/MCF. I Checked and can find no public record of natural gas trading below $3.30 in August. I inquired with Chesapeake and was simply told that’s what they sold the minerals for. This does not seem right and I am seeking guidance on who to contact state or elsewhere in order to have this looked into further. Thanks in advance - Bob McCorkle

When I questioned Noble on the difference between what is listed on the DOW vs what I was paid, I was informed I was paid on the delivery from Ellis county to the market.

Sounds fish to me, but it may have to do with a long term contract and the amount being delivered.

I was told we were paid in Oklahoma based on the Henry Hub price and that it was lower due to distance to pipeline.

Just checked and spot prices for Natural gas @ Henry Hub traded between $3.33 & $3.57 in August 2013

You might try searching here for your wells. Go back a few months and see what you find. I suspect a “post production” fees being taken out or a change in the gas contract. If the wells are in different locations, they may have different contracts. Good thing to keep an eye on it!

Yeh, my well finally came in in Sec 25 17N 24W at 585 BBL/Day oil and 1715 MCF/Day Gas. Time to pop the cork on some Champagne.

Deanna,

There was a well in Section 23 to the Cottage Grove Formation. It produced int he 1980’s or so and didn’t produce much. The interesting thing is that a local operators has a Cottage Grove well in the Section to the west and has also permitted some horizontal wells in the area. Northeast of Section 23 are a couple of wells to the much deeper Morrow Sandstone formation that indicates present knowledge of the prospective geologic formations in the area. Offers to lease may be the beginning of negotiations for a sale. I doubt if a seller could get a fair price right now but believe that could materially change in 3-5 years as more horizontal wells are drilled.

For some time I’ve felt that Chesapeake has not been paying market rates for the mineral it’s extracting. Then Yesterday, saw this article in the Wall Street Journal - http://on.wsj.com/1fSTqFH

Am I the only one in Ellis county who is seeing this pattern?
