Right now, we are net exporters of hydrocarbons. We are doing some trading of our oil for heavier oil where we have excess refinery capacity. We are not where we were in 1974, where the Arab Oil Embargo turned us upside down. We are pretty much energy independent. An enviable position.
This is a bit rambling, but if we take out two or three Iranian refineries, that action would destabilize the world oil market.
