Fieldview leased about 4,400 acres in Anderson County for Comstock. However, all those leases had effective dates in October 2023 with five-year primary terms, so Comstock doesn’t need to drill any wells quickly.
Drake Is EXPAND (Chesapeake). There are several other brokers leasing in Houston County also for them.
I see that Vanna Production recorded a bunch of memorandums right after Drake. Are they working for the same company?
Vanna sold a 46,500 net acre position in Leon and Freestone Counties to Mitsui last summer. They also have done a 25% working interest deal with Mitsui, and are now leasing in Freestone, Anderson, and Leon Counties on behalf of Mitsui.
Drake is leasing in Houston and Anderson Counties, and the consensus guess is that they are leasing for Expand (formerly Chesapeake).
I own property in the Ewing. Our area hasn’t been leased in many years. Ask a matter of fact, some leases last taken, that I can find, were in 1986. So i don’t even know what a fair offer is. I jumped all over my offer, because I don’t want to wait another 30 years to lease it, especially with oil prices falling a little.
I’m told Vanna is not leasing for Mitsui. Do you know this for a fact? I own over 200 acres in Anderson. I’m very familiar with the oil industry as I own minerals in multiple counties, and suggest it to be very dangerous to assume someone is leasing on behalf of someone else, so are you absolutely sure they’re leasing for Mitsui?
The person what can best address this issue is out of the country right now and not returning until after Memorial Day
Vanna (Jason Lane), has investors that acquire leases and flips them. They used to be backed by the Wilkes. They sold this position to Mitsusi a while ago.
Spoke to an individual that is very “in the know” on matters around the East Texas patch. He confirmed that Drake is leasing on behalf of Expand. Vanna is leasing on behalf of Mitsui. He went on to say that both their buy lines run to about Tennessee Colony and maybe just a bit both of there. The unknown is still Key Exploration and their efforts. This gentlemen was assuming it was also Expand, but couldn’t say for sure.
I agree with everything in your post. Key Exploration in Cherokee County began writing seismic options in 2020, but still no assignments. However, I also believe they are leasing for Expand.

Drake 2 is leasing in the area near Percilla, East of Grapeland. This is not very far from the Deep Vertical Bossier Wells that were drilled Southeast of there in about 2006 time frame. Most likely these area’s will be drilled horizontal in the near future.
And not far from the Augusta Yancey #1 vertical well that was drilled and tested earlier this year. Rumor mill puts Expand (CHK) behind this well and the leasing activities in this area.
