Does drilling or fracking come first?

I got a response from the oil company that some wells are “currently drilling” and some are “waiting on frac”.

I’m trying to figure out which comes first:

Are the “currently drilling” wells further along the process to production, or the “waiting on frac” wells further along?

I googled this but couldn’t figure it out. Thanks to anybody who can clarify.

Wells are drilled, then frac’d. Then turned over to production.

Great, thank you so much!

Sometimes fracking follows drilling promptly, but other times, operators drill a well, then defer fracking until some future date, e.g., higher commodity prices, capital expenditure timing etc. Such wells are called “Drilled Uncompleted” and known as DUCs. A DUC might get fracked two months later, two years later, or occasionally longer if perhaps the operator decides that DUC well might prove to be uneconomic.

Ok, good to know, thank you.
