Devon Recoupment in ND wells

I inherited minerals a few years back in Mountrail County ND. I had not received a royalty check for 4 months, when I called I was told my account was in recoupment. Devon stated they are adjusting the way they are accounting for things. When I requested more detailed information, they said they are processing corrections for components of the price that were originally classified as costs. I asked for the monthly statements that are normally received showing the details. But they only provided a spreadsheet with annual sums. Also, taxes were paid on that money, it is a large sum they are recouping, is there no recourse for the taxes paid? Another issue is there was a life estate for 1/2 of the minerals, which ended 6/30, and were deeded back to the original trust now my trust share. Devon said they are recouping money from the life estate account, against my account since it transferred to me -they are going back 4-5 years I wasn’t legal owner of that account or those minerals until 3 months ago. Are they legally allowed to do that?
