Deleted forums

I have been looking at the Louisiana Parish sites and saw a posting from one of the administrators that said the site postings was "inadvertently" deleted by an intern.

Well, ALL OF THE PARISH SITES I LOOKED AT TONIGHT SEEM TO HAVE BEEN DELETED. SO, WAS THE ENTIRE SITE DELETED? I HOPE NOT. THAT WOULD BE TRAGIC.

From the damage Done to the North Dakota forums, the damage was broad and extensive, entire groups disappeared. RT Dukes stepped in and opened new groups so there would be a place for people to post and you probably see his name quite often but it was quite a blow. I think many people gave up at that point and did not return. All you can do is join a group that is empty and post whatever information you have and hope it draws interest. There are a large amount of lurkers who never post for most groups, in my opinion, if you post, they might eventually answer, all I can suggest. My posts come up in Google searches and I presume everyone elses would also. Late welcome to the forum.

Can you be more specific? What parishes are you looking at?

We had a summer intern who was updating information in several groups in the summer of 2012 and inadvertently deleted the groups by deleting what he thought were the old (not updated) versions.

He was simply viewing the "cached" versions of the groups, when in actuality the cache hadn't cleared and he delete the real versions.

If you'll provide the links to where you are looking, I can give you more background. Louisiana groups have not been deleted to my knowledge.

Sorry, I just looked at the responses.

I was just browsing around various Louisiana forums, and since I was not paying attention, I don't know which ones in Louisiana I was looking at. The Administrator comment was on the first one I opened. So, I just assumed the absence of posts was because they were all deleted, after I started clicking them randomly. I think that in the Oklahoma County forums we are fortunate that there are so many posts every day.

I found out that the folks I met have a fairly large mineral and acreage interest in Arcadia Parish. I have just been learning the general ropes this year for Oklahoma, and believe me, I am still a novice, however have been able to secure interests of my side of the family that were left out of filings from the 1930's on. My Grandma died during the probate of my Great Grandmother's estate in 1931, so the ball was dropped.

My Great Grandparents lived in a wagon in Oklahoma Indian Territory and most of the kids were born in Indian Territory. I've been told they drove the wagon all around most of Central Oklahoma, pushing cattle for some time. Then at one time they owned about 700 or more acres in at least two Counties. I wish I had minerals for the 400 they owned in Stephens County !!! ha. So I am learning from folks who are still alive in the family about our history. Most of the family who left the farms and moved West in the Depression have passed. Okay, back to Louisiana.
I offered to help the folks I met here, with the limited amount I have learned, but of course Louisiana is a different State, so I hope to just give them information to start their education. The gentleman has some health problems and his wife is trying to do this, while they manage their lives in a changing economy.

Thanks to you both for the information. I wonder if it is likely they will need to start their own forum, and then learn from the Mineral forum itself how to navigate. (with limited interest in forums there in Louisiana, however, this might not be the best course to take). I at least know how to calculate an interest in a well, and am going to explain this on paper when I get together with them.

If there are any sites, links, or directions for them to start research, then please share them here, and I'll make a list. I can help them with some of the research. too, but I'm certainly not a professional. I retired a few years ago and feel the need to help folks who need it, wherever they are, in whatever way they need. I do this with family and neighbors, even though that these days people keep telling me to not do it !! Too many folks are afraid these days !!!

I guess I still have what I learned from my Mother, and her being a child of the Depression and the Dust Bowl, well, everyone helped each other there and then. Can we imagine what the world would be like if we did this?

Some questions that come to mind for me about Louisiana, are probably simple:

Is a Parish like a County?

Do they have Parish Courts where records are kept? Or Clerks who record and keep them?

Are records filed in the Parishes? Like for instance filings of probates and of course filings of mineral interests.

I know this is very basic, but I do not know Louisiana. I wish I did, and when I get a good savings of royalties from Oklahoma, I will travel for some months through the States where my people came from. My Dad was from Paris Texas, and I am not yet sure if there were family in Louisiana. I have always wanted to travel there for the history, not the Mardi Gras!!! ha.... Watching it online is enough for me.

So, any information I can get is so very much appreciated, and will help. Even simple information. Thanks to you both !!!
