Cherokee County TX - Need info on Royalties

I inherited a royalty property in Cherokee County, TX about 10 years ago.

An exploration company contacted me as the heir and leased my royalties. Only once did I receive a check for $ 900 from production. After that nothing - no info whatsoever. I have never heard from them again. Upon my inquiry I was informed they abandoned the well. But no further information, e.g. production, size of reserve...etc.

How should I go about

1) to find the right help to transfer title into my name and
2) to do some research on my behalf about developments.

Again, the property is located in Cherokee County
Thank you for your help.

Walter:

First, make sure the minerals isn't already in your name. If a company knew who to contact and you leased to them, the information must be on record at the Cherokee County courthouse. You can verify that by researching records yourself at the courhouse. If you do need help in this area, I would contact an oil and gas attorney who is familiar with this area. Second, if you want to research the current status of the well, you can go to the Railroad Commission of Texas office in Kilgore, Texas, and they will assist you in finding out this information. Hope this information helps!

Do you remember who the company was? I too am the heir to some mineral rights in Cherokee counry and are currently being approached by a landman about leasing them.
