Change of owners

I have a well that has been actively producing since July 2020. During this time has changed owners in middle of probate. Which company is responsible for paying royalties now that probate is over and funds can now be released and how long will it take to get a check after oil companies receive notice? Thank you and have a great week

Send a notice of ownership change by certified return mail to the Division Order or Royalty Department of original operator and any subsequent ones just to make sure that you don’t get lost in the owner shuffle. Ask them what they will need to put you in pay status. If varies from company to company, but most will need a copy of the probate and a W-9. Make sure that you file the probate documents in the counties where you have minerals so that all parties can find you.

Timing on payment will vary by company. If you have check stubs from the ancestor with the owner number on them, include that information in your letter to make it easier on the Division Order analyst.
