BTP Operating Assigns Their Leases To Chesapeake Exploration, LLC

In a document filed in Anderson County this afternoon, BTP Operating assigned their Anderson County leases to Chesapeake Exploration, LLC (subsidiary of Expand). They have recorded 42 leases covering about 3,100 acres.

Interesting that they assigned to Chesapeake. I figured that entity was dissolved and everything was Expand moving forward. I think at this time we know the 4 companies (maybe 5) out leasing for chk/expand and Vanna leasing for themselves/Mitsui. Word on the street is that there is another broker that has contacted some mineral owners in last couple weeks about leasing their minerals in this same area. From what I was told they would not say who they were leasing for, but that it was for a “larger operator coming into the area.” Stay tuned, could be another player coming into the area…

Expand is apparently going to try to operate under their Chesapeake Exploration, LLC it protects them form their sloppy lease brokers. It’s kinda always been easy in small towns if the locals will communicate with each other. But since current times with scanned court house records and Texfile and others, it is not as necessary to have landmen go to the local court houses or have local offices as before. Trying to HIDE whom you are leasing for can cause problems.

Chesapeake Exploration LLC is an existing entity used for leasing purposes. No need to create a new one just because the “parent” company changed its name.

Sloppy indeed concerning the broker work in the area thus far.
