Interesting tid bit on how much is paid to royalty owners:

2010 estimates:

  • $6.7 billion paid in Texas
  • $2 billion in Wyoming
  • $1.9 billion in Alaska

2012 Estimate:

  • $1.2 billion Pennsylvania

P.S. State and federal royalties are in those figures. Alaska is almost all paid to the state and fed.

Another reason to keep an eye on the fracking hysterics being bandied about. I bet you can count on one hand the number of documented cases of ground water pollution from fracking.
