My family and I own several hundred acres of minerals in the Bakken area of Sheridan County, MT. They may be open Dec. 2013. Located in S 23-26/ T 34N/R52-53E . Any suggestions how to market them?

Arlene, if you believe your lease will expire create a list of 'prospects' now. Go to www.dnrc.MT.gov/Trust/MMB/OG and check the state auction results in your county over the past year. This will provide the company names interested in your area, and give you actual lease pricing info. Do the same with the BLM for federal mineral leases in Montana. Sorry I don't have that web address handy. Then go to www.BOGC.dnrc.MT.gov and look at the map for your area of Sheridan County. Make a list of all the oil companies who have either existing wells or permits near you (say within 15 to 20 miles). Also if you haven't done so already, post a query on the Sheridan Co page on this forum asking for info on who has leased and what prices were paid. These steps should provide you with actual market values on leases near you. Then if your lease comes open this December you should have a half dozen prospective Lessees to contact, and some idea where the market is at. Good Luck.
