As Fractional mineral rights owner how do I know when they start drilling and producing?

I’m new to this matter on mineral rights but I’m learning. My dad has a small fractional lease with other family members. When do we know they are drilling and producing? Is there a way to track this process? This is located in Northern West Virginia. Is there an article on this site that I have missed? Any thoughts from the experienced mineral owners?

The best way to know if they are drilling or producing on your land is to periodically visit the acreage or, if you are not living close to the acreage, have someone that is check it out for you. Most state government will also require the company to file permits, completion reports & production reports but, these are always delayed due to filing requirements & normal posting to public source delays.

Thank you for the information Nick. I do not live close to this site. I was wondering if there was a web site where I would be able to track this information.

I am not familiar with West Virginia. I did find this website which looks like a good place to start.: http://www.dep.wv.gov/oil-and-gas/Pages/default.aspx

Thank you, Nick.

http://www.dep.wv.gov/oil-and-gas/Pages/default.aspx That is the official site. The production does not have to be reported by the companies until the end of March of the following year. Thus anything drilled and produced in 2010 does not have to be reported until March 31, 2011. http://www.dep.wv.gov/oil-and-gas/GI/Pages/WeeklyReports.aspx The above will get you the weekly reports, 3 different things, loosely arranged by county and the permit number.

Thanks, Nancy for the information. Gosh, there is alot of information here. Is this the simplest way to track these matters?
