Appraised Value Increase for 2014

Our Precidio CAD notice of Appraised Value for 2014 is over 1700% increase from 2009. Does anyone have any idea what is behind this increase?

John, Yes, it’s been in the papers, here’s a link to the latest article. http://bigbendnow.com/2014/06/petree-property-owners-invited-to-discuss-appraisals/. We’ve known this was coming for over a year, and now we’re hoping the elected officials roll back the tax rate to make the appraisals revenue neutral. Here’s the meat of the article that answers your question: “Petree also reiterated at the meeting that PCAD hired him for the reappraisal to help both school districts, Marfa ISD and Presidio ISD, with the local values. Both districts receive state funding based on local property values. However, the gap between the local values and the state values was so wide that the school districts were forced to appeal to avoid losing more funding. These appeals usually cost the district as much as $30,000.”

Yes, I have the same concern
