Good day helpful folks. My siblings and I were in discussion to sell our mineral rights (we just want to get out) and the company we were talking with went dark. Finally got a response from them and this is what they said - “we just aren’t buying in that area as much as we had previously been on account of some seismic results we recently saw.” This is for area south of Buffalo, not going to name the surveys right now, but did want to know if anyone had any updated information about any new seismic data or if this is just a load of BS and they did not want to just say so. Thanks.
If you do a web search for “new seismic surveys in Leon County near Buffalo” you will find some links on Facebook from Centerville for late 2025.
Thank you, your input is helpful as always. I did do a search before posting and found the Facebook links you mentioned. They do not indicate, however, any of the results or what the impact of the findings might indicate.
Seismic shoots are proprietary. The results are the property of the operators that commissioned and interpreted the data. They are very rarely released to the public. Perhaps years later in a select picture for a professional paper to illustrate a technical point. They will use the data for their exploration and development first.
Understood, that said it would seem the group we were talking with managed to ‘see’ some of the data or somehow gathered enough ‘rumor’ to abandon discussions with us and stated they were no longer interested in that area. Was hoping to hear if this was pure speculation, smoke, or somewhat valid information is all. Thank you.
Who’s the company that went dark on you? I’d like to know so that I don’t make a deal with them in the future.
Always take an excuse with a ‘grain of salt.’ Most of these buyers are equity-funded short-term investors, who plan to resell within 3-5 years. They move into areas with permit activity or where they hear others are looking. If target areas change, it sounds better to claim they have seen ‘bad seismic’ rather than to admit they have made you a too-large offer or got hold of another bigger mineral prospect or their client said to go off in another direction. Seismic interpretation takes very complicated engineering and geological analytics (and even then is not absolute) and no one can just ‘peek’ at it.
This is reflective of our experience, what tennis daze is saying here. People throw offers out there and then maybe they spend their capital on another purchase while they’re waiting for you to reply. Or maybe they’re not even serious or well funded and they’re just bottom feeders.
This sounds outrageous, but I have received hundreds of offers to purchase my rights in the past three years.
The only seismic I noticed is the low rumbling sound of many large companies stampeding to set up shop in Leon in Freestone Counties. The activity is so robust it sounds like an earthquake.
Wanted to say thank you to all that responded. Your input is most welcome and helpful.
