Almost blew out in the smithwick north of cisco

The Smithwick is a hot pressured shale in and around Cisco, Texas. Never understood why no one thought about it.

It is a head scratcher. Maybe it’s the big secret deal in the making!

Ralpr: the only thing I can think of is the thickness of the Smithwick shale body. Have had problems drilling Smithwick throughout the Mississippian trend. It is everywhere and has to be a source rock.

How thick is the Smithwick? (No rhyme intended)

That’s the key in some areas 50’. Other areas may be thicker. Oil companies like thick sections to drill horizontal through. Thicker the section bigger frac bigger reserves. Oh and the Smithwick may be primarily gas and gas prices are weak uneconomic.

I hear you.

Joseph do you remember the well name that almost blew out in the smithwick?
