Activity in Sharkey County

We have 1600 acres of mineral rights in Sharkey County with a 5 year lease that expires in 2016.

Has there been any oil/gas drilling activities in Sharkey County since 2011?

Mr. Smith;

Below is a link to the MS Oil & Gas Board web site. On the site is a link to a search engine that you can use to look for activity in your area. For example, click on the link below, scroll down and click on the mapping web site. There you need to go to the advanced search where you can enter specific information such as county, operator, section, township, range, etc.

Enter the information you know. For example, you will see County and next to it two drop downs. Press the first and select "= Equal" and in the second select "Sharkey". Then press find.......it should return 102 entries... press the plus sign "+" and it will show you the first 50 well entries. If you select one of the wells, it will show you information about the well, and more details in the "map" area. Within the well information area there are boxes such as General, Location, Images, Documents, etc. Press them to get additional information.

Narrow the search with information you have about your property, such as section, township, range, etc. by completing the appropriate search operator (left box) and search argument (right box).

Nose around and see what you can find.......please post back here whether you were able to achieve any positive results.

I wish you luck.

Mr. Smith;

I also found this search engine (below) that is a bit easier to use. It is a permit search, I assume a permit has to be applied for and approved before drilling a well in MS.

I searched from 01/01/1996 to 05/02/2014 for Sharkey county and came up with only 4 matches, all in the 2004/2005 year range. So I don't think there has been any activity in areas where our minerals reside. Let me know if you find out otherwise.

Continued good luck;

Thanks FO for the link. It's really difficult to tell us if these wells have been productive.

Fayette Owner:

Thanks for the link. I've checked the 102 records and I don't believe any of the are currently producing.

Mr. Smith;

If other online research tools are available, I don't know about them. Seems there should be more activity but that might just be wishful thinking on my part.

We went to Sharkey & Issaquenna counties last summer to do some research and there were a lot of recent leases filed.
