Very interesting! I just saw where XTO just got a permit for a well in section 31 4N2W.
Upon searching it out it looks like they drilled a 8 thousand foot straight well there in 1997.
So is it possible they are going to go back in and make a horizontal well out of it? I have interest in section 30 so I am interested in what they are doing there. Tom
Very rare to use an old hole. Can be done, but not usually optimal. The permit is a recomplete the vertical hole.
Recomplete a vertical hole. So my guess it won’t be a good producer like a horizontal well!
That would be correct. I vertical hole only exposes a bit of reservoir to the pipe. A horizontal hole exposes potentially thousands of feet to the production pipe.
