3-mile long laterals more profitable?

Long laterals exceeding 2 miles, some 3 miles horizontal, are increasing in number. Is the 3-mile lateral proven superior, and demonstrably more profitable than standard 2-mile laterals? Are mineral acres less valuable, if blocked-in a 2-mile long pooled unit, compared to 3-mile units?

Similarly, are minerals confined to a single square-mile PLSS section less valuable (NPV) than acreage that operator can pool into 2-mile laterals?
