28-11-23 Pooling

Looks like multiple wells going into this tract very soon with forced pooling on the horizon?

King Energy has pooling case 2026-002946 for section 28. If you are already leased, you will not be included in the pooling, but if you are open then your name should be on the respondents list. for the Virgil reservoir.

Upland also has a pooling case 2026-002942 for the Virgil.

JMA has a pooling case 2026-002713.

Not sure who will get the operatorship at this point until the cases are completed.

You can look the cases up on the Electronic Case Filing website and see if your name is on the lists.

Use the Case Document Search and type in the Case numbers one at a time.

Good morning, Can you explain what pooling is? We got an offer to lease from Black Mesa Oil and Gas. They offered $500 lease 1/5 royalty. Our lot is 10 acres section 2310 north 24 west. I countered at $1000 lease 1/5 royalty. We are new to this and with very little research I have done, I have many questions. What are post production costs, what is pooling, and other terms that I need help with during this process.

Any advise or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

This is a good explanation of pooling for OK. You can either lease or accept force pooling. Both have their own pros and cons. If you can get an attorney to help with an excellent lease, then that is my preference, but if the lessee won’t budge, then pooling has its own advantages.

Another good resource is a small booklet called “Look before you Lease” by Jim Stafford. A bit older, but gives basic guidelines.

Operators are responsible for drilling and completing a well on their dime. In Oklahoma, they are also responsible for getting the product to market UNLESS they put those post production charges in the lease. Most of them try to do that and hope that newbie folks will let them get away with it. Savvy mineral owners do not want those charges such as compression, dehydration, marketing, transmission costs, etc. If you have a gas well, they can eat up a good percentage of your royalties.

An investment in a good oil and gas attorney up front to help you get a good lease will save you money in the long run. If hiring an attorney is not feasible, then pooling is fine. Most of us would pick the highest royalty offered and make sure that they return letter is filed in the 20 days given.
