Has anyone who owns property in or adjacent to T.J. Shaun survey been contacted regarding permission to conduct seismic testing?
No we have not. Any idea which company this is for?
There are five TJ Shawn Surveys in Leon County. What is the abstract number?
Abstract 784 near CR 347.
Comstock has leased about 100 acres within that survey, plus some additional tracts that included acreage in adjoining surveys. Could be Comstock looking to fine tune their drilling plans, or it could be somebody else, like Mitsui, taking a look.
We received a letter from Goldstar Land services for seismic testing on behalf of Silverthorne at J Whitfield AB 928.
Be sure there is not an oil and gas option tied to the permit.
Where is this abstract located?
Hello, this same company calling themselves Goldstar made a seismic request in the Eastern Part of Houston County a person told me that they contacted.
What were the damages offered? I heard $20 / acre and nothing per dynamite hole (shot-hole).
Last time they done drilled hole for seismograph around here it caused several artesian water wells just flowing from a open hole. It was tough sealing them up with bags of cement.
You do not have to sign the consent form presented by the agent who is most likely working for a 3rd party company. Ask for identity of actual seismic operations company. Among other things, consent should include time limit to complete the seismic, be limited to a single test during that period, add liability and indemnification clause that includes any person or company which is performing the work and the company for whom the work is being done, state that the additional consideration is due for any actual damages to surface, crops, grass, etc or for repairs, limit size or type of vehicles, etc and require that it be signed by seismic company or agent with authority to sign on behalf of the seismic company. As noted above it should not grant any party the right or option to lease minerals. These are legal documents and should be approached as such.
Very sorry, we are on the other side of 45 by Flo. It is not adjacent to you. I just wanted to share the companies contacting us.
Good afternoon. We likewise received letter from Goldstar asking for permission to survey. Interesting it was sent to our surface acreage entity which is separate from our mineral interests entity. I recall that mineral interest, as the dominant estate, maintains the right to explore. Curious the overlap of surface owners providing rights of access for seismic that may adversely affect mineral interests owners.
Most seismic is done by a few large companies which amass data in their seismic libraries which can then be licensed or ‘rented’ out to oil company for in-house analysis before drilling. Seismic data is complex and only experts can interpret, and their opinions will vary. Small oil companies only use this infrequently. A mineral lessee might lend its consent and name to the project, but the oil company is just getting access to the seismIc in return, perhaps for free and perhaps for a lower fee. The surface owner owns the subsurface pore space, but not the oil and gas. And the seismic is largely looking at underground ‘terrain’, not identifying pools of oil and gas. Surface owner is compensated for damages to surface during the testing. Mineral owner may be asked for consent, if the minerals are unleased, but is not paid as there is no damage to oil and gas itself.
