Reeves County, TX - Oil & Gas Discussion archives

You make me realize how much I have to learn, Stephen! Thanks, though! Linton

Never did find out why Billy wanted to know if those properties were in TSP 7.

Linton – a certain SEC in TSP 7 is ~8 miles from the same section in TSP 8… location, location location. Later – Buzz

Buzz,

Hi Clint & Buzz,

I don’t have a tax notice since the mineral rights have not yet produced. They were leased by EOG for 3 years and now by Rosetta for 2 yrs. I understand my abstract # according to Clint is A321 for section 265/Block 13 and maybe A1603, A5534 or A1867 for Block 13/section 266 from earlier in this blog. Here is my legal:

Tract 1: Block 1 of the Toyah Valley Grape and Alfalfa Co. Subdivision, Section 266, Block 13, H&GN Survey, Reeves County, Texas.

Tract 2: Block 6 of the Toyah Valley Grape and Alfalfa Co. Subdivision, Section 266, Block 13, H&GN Survey, Reeves County, Texas.

Tract 3: Lots 1-4, Block 14 of the Toyah Valley Grape and Alfalfa Co. Subdivision, Section 265, Block 13, H&GN Survey, Reeves County, Texas.

Section 266 is A5534.

This area was part of a great land swindle of the Methodist University and many members of the methodist denomination purchased small holding to help alleviate the fraud.

Just some esoteric information I have learned along the way about the Toyah Valley Alfalfa and Grape Co.

fingers crossed for luck

Ah, okay. I was hoping you were going to tell us something fantastically promising! Mine has been unleased since February. Thanks, guys!

Kathryn – might you know your Abstract Number, i.e., A-??? of A-??? If so, we can determine your township number. It should appear on your tax notice. Later – Buzz

small holdings

Linton Buzz was right just checking location I have some interest closer to TSP 8

Wow great piece of history, Lynn. Thank you for that. Do you have citations where I can read about it? My great grandfather was a Methodist bishop and president of SMU for some time. I’ve always thought he was forward thinking but maybe he was more of a protectionist.

Kathryn,

Wow!

I have only learned of this via conversation with a very well read amateur historian and a few mentions in print but have not to date been able to find a written history.

Supposedly it was a large swindle around the turn of the 20th century, 1900’s. My great grandfather who purchased the 20 acres was a Methodist minister.

I myself have been looking for citations also. Will probably have to go to a college/university library and dig.

Greetings! I’m new here and I don’t know what I need to do to get leased, I would very much appreciate any tips or guidance y’all can offer me. I have interests in Reeves Co. BLK C-5 Sections 3,4,5,8,9,10 (PSL abstracts 4818, 4819,4820,1358,4821,4822 respectively). I see on the RRC map that I have some dry holes, a plugged well (API 389), injection well and horizontal drilling. I collected my API #'s But I don’t know what they are supposed to tell me or how to use them. I’m trying to do my homework and figure this all out, but I’m not getting anywhere on my own. I was reading some older posts (4/16/14) and saw Buzz’s comment that Patriot has a rig running on my BLK C-5 Sec 8 and that they have requested another permit for my Sec 8. I’m hoping that’s good news for me, but I haven’t been contacted by them and I don’t have a lease or anything. Does that limit my negotiating power? Should I contact Patriot and tell them… something? What would be a reasonable offer? I have many questions and would be ever so grateful for your help. Thank you all kindly.

Bates:

Apache has active wells in 4 of those sections. Don’t know how you weren’t contacted. I suggest calling their Midland office and asking for one of the landmen. The WAHA wells were first permitted last year and they have just started a horizontal program.

Bates;

The more acreage you have to lease, the more attention you will get, and the more clout you will have.

If you have a larger base of resources, you have more resources to use to obtain a good deal.

Do not be afraid to ask or pay a professional to review the lease or even negotiate the lease.

The group of people at this site are a great resource for guidance in how to regard or consider something.

Good Luck.

Bates,

The preceding posts are why I love this site. Well done, folks!

By the way, the Patriot well just sits on Section 8, the horizontal drain is on the section north of the drill site. Apache is the active driller for the sections you have an interest in. Sarah
